Ohio Woman Follows Christian Path to Weight Loss Success
By WLC
Most weight loss experts will attest to the fact that successful weight loss and long-term maintenance isn't a matter of dieting, but about adopting a healthy lifestyle. For one Ohio woman, losing weight (and keeping that weight off) was a matter of incorporating healthy living principles into her Christian lifestyle.
Patricia Thomas, a 45-year-old mother of two, found connections between fundamental weight loss guidance and Biblical passages, and wrote about these connections in a journal that was a gift from her husband. Blending her faith with her desire to lose weight, Thomas finally achieved the weight-loss success that had eluded her during previous attempts at dieting.
A June 12 article on the website of the Dayton Daily News described Thomas's process:
She found that by journaling about a different scripture each week, she was able to approach her weight loss challenge in a new way. Within a year, she had reached her goal and was wearing a size 8.
One example of a Biblical message that came into play, she says, was the importance of keeping everything in balance. “That’s as Biblical as you can get,” Thomas says. “Society has helped us get out of balance with all the ‘biggie sizes’ and the ‘all-you-can-eats.’ ”
Another example: From a scripture about the cleansing power of water (Ezekiel 36:25), Thomas reflects about the importance of drinking water for weight loss.
Thomas is sharing her Christian approach to weight loss in a new book, “A Christian Woman’s Journal to Weight Loss: A 52-Week Guide to Losing Weight with The Word.” The book includes 52 scriptures, each of which is accompanied by one of Thomas's personal essays.
