Three Habits Can Help Kids Stay Slim
By Jane St. Clair
A study of 8,550 4-year-olds found that the following three habits can help keep children at a healthy weight.
- Eating family dinners on a regular basis.
- Eliminating time spent in front of television.
- Getting enough sleep.
"The more of these routines the child had, the lower their risk for obesity," said Dr. Sarah Anderson of the Ohio State University.
Those who had two healthy lifestyle behaviors were slimmer than those who had only one, and those who had all three were the least likely to be overweight. Dr. Anderson's study accounted for factors such as mother's obesity and family income.
