I have a lot of skinny friends who try to tell me how they keep thin - and it is completely ridiculous! One friend can eat like a horse all day long and not gain a pound. I told her - we just aren't the same - but she will say, oh eat the popcorn it's all air when we are at the movies. Air, oil, and she adds the butter. She not only eats a large one - she gets the FREE REFILL.
Sometimes its hard to sit there in the dark listening to her munch munch munch for two hours. I really don't want to not be able to do things with her. HOw can I convince her that this is about my health?!

I'm sorry, Lilly. That must be frustrating. Would it help to share with her the potential health risks of being overweight?

I KNOW it is so annoying to have those skinny friends but biology usually catches later in life. I have friends who even at my biggest close to 300 would say your not even that big split these appitizers with me and I would. You have to say to your friends FIRMLY that she has a different metabolism than you and that you are trying to become healthier and you don't care what she eats but I chose not to eat the same. Weight loss and weight gain are all about choses so I'm sorry your friend can pig out like that but that doesn't mean she is healthy, I have skinnier friends than me that can't even run or jog a mile your outside doesn't represent your arteries. If it is easier maybe just get some space from them or don't go to the movies go to a park or play paintball or an activity other than something around food, it will be fun and it won't be focused on eating and beign sedentary.
(If all else fails bring a healthy snack to the movies)

That's good advice, Trish. A good friend of mine had to have some hard conversations with a couple of our mutual friends when she started trying to lose weight and get healthy. Once, she got so frustrated that she said to them "Look, if you want to put junk like that in your bodies that's fine, but I don't want it in *my* body - why is that so hard to understand!?" It was the last time they ever bugged her about it.

There was a study done that skinny people hang out with other skinny people and the same is true for overweight ones. The overweight ones can sabotage you in subtle ways, simply because they are overeating and not necessarily aware of it.

I don't understand why big people hang out with other big people. Or why skinny people hang out with other skinny people. I think that it should be mixed for two reasons: a)skinny people will encourage big people to get skinny too, 2) skinny people hanging around the other skinnies makes them seem rude and makes them look like the bad guys for not hanging out with big people.
It's like being racist to the big people.

People in Southern Michigan are beginning to feel like those on the Gulf of Mexico as crews were working Monday to contain and clean up an estimated 900,000 gallons of oil that has already coated birds and fish as it poured into a creek and flowed into the Kalamazoo River, one of the state's major waterways.
In between this leak and the one in the Gulf, another oil leak has hit the people in Utah.
Why three major oil leaks within a few months after years of none?
Many are beginning to blame terrorists. "If they can cut off our home supplies, we will have to rely more and more on foreign oil imports and these exporters also export terrorism by financing their projects", stated one oil official.
So far the Obama administration hasn't mentioned this as the work of terrorists but BP Oil has.
"We dig hundreds of wells", stated one spokesman for BP. "Why does this happen now? Why are there two more in the U.S. and now hitting other areas?"
Of course, many on the right are saying that President Obama doesn't care about the oil leaks. Reason #1 being that it takes our minds off our failing economy and job losses and at the same time, keeps companies from drilling at many places.
"The President wants us to rely more on solar and wind power, but we are not seeing much happening in those directions, other than giving China the jobs to build the windmills", Senator Jim Bunning is reported as saying.
