I keep seeing ads in Facebook for Oprah's green tea diet - has anyone tried it? does it work?

Yes, I've tried the green tea thing. I've actually bought green tea pills from a drug store. Green tea is supposed to make you feel full all the time. It DOES NOT WORK. To me the main problem is why do thin people not feel hungry? My old roommate could skip lunch and never think about food until dinner. I get headaches and can't stop thinking about the food if I skip lunch. I just get hungrier and hungrier. It's not fair.

How do you deal with that or do you just get hungry at mealtimes?

I don't know if this helps, but I've noticed that as I've increased by exercise, my appetite has actually gone down. And when I am hungry, I crave much healthier things - fruits & vegetables as opposed to chips or fast food.

Exercise just makes me feel really hungry, but I guess I am not in that good of shape to begin with. Did you feel that way at first, and if so, how long did it take to get to the point where exercise makes you feel less hungry? Do you just walk, Steph, or do you do regular execise routines? I just got a dance video yesterday so I am all psyched to try it. Would you recommend walking with a pedometer? Is that what you do? HELP. GEN

Hi Gen,
In the beginning I felt pretty hungry. And I notice that if I make a dramatic increase in my level of exercise I feel more hungry for a little while. Again, though, I've noticed that, regardless of how big or small my appetite is, I'm hungry for healthier things.
I actually don't use a pedometer. I know a lot of people who do, I've just never invested in one. I've heard that 10,000 steps equals about 4 miles, so I use a website called MapMyRun (www.mapmyrun.com) where I can map out how far I've walked or run. For example, I used the website to map the distance between my home and my office, and found that it's about 2 miles round-trip. So if I walk to and from work, I'm half-way to my goal!

Does your walking do enough to keep you slim? I try to walk more but I never seem to lose any weight.

Not as slim as I would like, but that's because I'm not consistent. A friend of mind started walking three miles a day, 4 - 5 days a week, and over the course of about 6 months she lost over 50 pounds! So, I know it will work if I stick to a regular routine.

I started the rule that I had to walk to anything 1 mile or less to get to - like the store, the coffee place I go to - that has allowed me to add in much more walking each day and I feel great.

Where I live it's so hard to walk anywhere! I even have to drive to Circle K. Also we have a lot of really bad weather. But I would like to try to get more walking into my life, if only by parking the car far away from the mall.

I am waiting for my pedometer to come in the mail! Bravo! A fresh start!

Good for you! Is it hard when you don't live in a "walkable" community. That's one of the reasons I moved.
Has your pedometer arrived yet?

Hi I just was reading this convo and I would like to put my two cents in. Congrats on the pedo it really will help you become aware of how many steps you are walking every day and also if you have a little competitive streak in you you can top your steps progressively and walk further and further. If your trying to lose weight you should be self monitoring what your eating with that and the pedo you take the guess work out of losing weight. Dance videos, the gym and walking are all really great starts as you continue your body will begin to change and also you will be craving more of the fruits and veggies. Although you may be hungry after the gym like I am most of the time your body will be in calorie burning mode so just try to be conscious of what your eating and how long it took you to burn off 100 calories, every 2,000 steps is a mile so aim for your 10,000 steps and you get 5 miles . Hope that helps.

I got my pedometer! It works just great, although it took me a long time to figure out how to set it. So far I am walking about 2200 steps a day, which is not much. The problem is I have a sit-down job. What do you suggest? G.

I would suggest joining a gym (if you live in a place that's cold in the winter) and walk the other few miles on a treadmill.

I do belong to a gym, but I am alas not always faithful. Today I did do the treadmill thing! Yay me! However, I am still fat and considering surgery.Violin

If consistency is a challenge, maybe it would help to partner up w/someone. Most gyms have a community board where people can post things... see if anyone's looking for a work-out partner. Or you could post your own note for a work-out buddy.

I am actually doing better and seeing some progress. I think what I got wrong was the hype that you can do it all in six weeks. It's more like six months.

this is true for me also. to me, i think exercising is very important in dieting.
