Dave Broome, who co-created the series with Gren Wells (a former executive producer on the reality competition show "The Biggest Loser"), told Variety that he was intrigued by the relative impunity with which herbal supplement manufacturers market their products.

"It's the magic pill theory," Broome said in a July 9 article on the tabloid's website. "As a society, we don't care what the side effects are to these pills. I thought it would be an interesting world to look into, the fact that it's a market unregulated by the FDA."
