The Jenny Craig Diet

Description:

Jenny Craig is not only a diet, but also a comprehensive program with individual counseling, classes in nutrition, motivational tapes, online community support, and an individualized exercise plan. Because you eat only prepackaged, low-calorie foods, you have no choice but to lose weight unless you cheat by eating more.

Jenny Craig began in Australia in 1983, and now has over 645 centers in Australia, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Puerto Rico. During your first visit to a center, you meet with a counselor who weighs and measures you, determines your current activity level, and designs your diet. You get ongoing support from your counselor through weekly consultations or by phoning any time for help. Your personalized fitness program is built around your lifestyle. For example, you may be able to increase your walking simply by parking further from your office every day. Kirstie Alley, a celebrity spokesperson for Jenny Craig, reportedly lost over 50 pounds by eating the prepackaged foods and dancing.

Jenny Craig has programs for men, seniors, adolescents, nursing mothers, and brides-to-be. If you have fewer than 15 pounds to lose, you may do “Jenny OnTrack,” which lasts only six months. Very overweight people often sign up for “Jenny Rewards,” which offers a year of weight loss plus maintenance. Another variation is “Jenny Direct” for people who cannot or do not want to go to a center in person. They complete their programs via phone and Internet, and have their foods delivered. Jenny Craig costs an average of $11 to $15 a day, including food.

The Jenny Craig Diet is low-calorie and breaks down to 50-60% carbohydrate, 20-25% fat, and 20-25% protein. Their nutritionists take pride in the fact that everything – even cheat foods like chocolate cake – is on the plan. Those Jenny Craig foods that you cook are available frozen and in boiling bags.
