The Wellspring Way is the healthiest, but most important, the MOST EFFECTIVE way to lose weight and control your weight over the long term. This isn't just talk - the Wellspring weight loss camps and schools have followed their participants long after they have left the programs and returned home. The results have been dramatic and record-shattering.  They show that the Wellspring plan is THE most effective weight loss and fitness plan for young people. No other plan has shown the same results. No other diet has led to such impressive weight loss and maintenance - even among adolescents who are extremely overweight.

Wellspring allows campers to significantly cut calories and reduce fat without feeling deprived. Last summer we had exactly zero complaints about hunger, which is consistent with our research demonstrating that campers are not reporting any significant hunger. This is due to the fact that the low-fat diet at Wellspring programs is so satisfying, and also because we allow campers an unlimited amount of "uncontrolled" foods, such as soups, fresh fruit and salad, as well as items such as fat-free yogurts, fat-free tuna salad, fat-free egg salad, and fat-free cottage cheese.

Basic Eating Plan

A typical day of controlled foods will include 1,200 calories, 10 g of fat, 50 g of protein, and 30 g of fiber. Uncontrolled foods will add to these totals – often significantly. At Wellspring, there is no caloric goal. If campers are hungry, they will have as much uncontrolled food as they like, until they are satisfied. All we ask is that they self-monitor everything.

Could anything be simpler?  If you shop carefully and stock your home with low-fat, high-fiber foods (loads of veggies and fruits) you will be able to easily follow this plan.

Self-Monitoring

This is critical to the Wellspring Way - results have proven over and over again that when you write down what you eat, keep track of fat grams, and write down your activities (how many steps), you are significantly more likely to stick with the plan. The most common reason for going off the Wellspring Way is that the participant stopped writing this down.

Walking 10,000 Steps a Day

The other indispensable part of the Wellspring Way is to get in 10,000 steps a day. The best way to monitor this is to where a pedometer all day.  You can clip it to the top of your slacks or skirt and keep it hidden.  Throughout the day check and see how much you have walked - everything counts!

Most Wellspringers start with a few thousand steps then build up to 10,000. They also get a little competitive as they start going over the 10,000-step minimum.  Having a buddy to start this plan with can help inspire you and spark your competitive side.  20,000 steps anyone?
